For many people in this profession, the day-to-day operations of being a wedding professional takes on a familiar process.  There is the sales consultation, the pre-event planning time and the wedding day.  You apply your experience and training to these circumstances and deliver an outcome that is consistant with your capabilities. 

But how do you really view your involvement?  If you are a photographer – is this just a photo shoot?  If you’re a DJ – is this just a gig?  If you are a banquet facility representative – is this just the set-up and tear-down of an event?

The Importance of Responsible Commentary

For many years, wedding professionals have had to endure articles in popular magazines (from staff writers) and portrayals in the media (from reporters) that have not always been well-versed about our profession and thus not always reported on matters that affect us accurately.  Such reporting can sometimes confuse an issue or leave a tainted perception of our industry.  In other cases, while our marketplace enjoys a wonderful inclusion of dedicated professionals, some closer-to-home questionable perception issues on a regional scale have been problematic and gone unchecked with little or no effort or avenue to correct these missteps.  The internet, and more specifically, the on-line form of journalism known as “blogging” has created an avenue for some to express an opinion, create a discussion and in some cases, to set the record straight.
