The Remarkable Moment That Started It All
by Larry Williams
I have had many great achievements throughout my professional career. But none more amazing than my fortunate association with entertainment legend Dick Clark. I have been a fan of his since I was a child. When I became a DJ, as a young adult, I grew more and more appreciative of him and the indelible mark he has left on our profession.
So needless to say, when I first met him in 1995 . . . it was the thrill of a lifetime. Coincidentally, I became friends with his family which, in turn, grew our friendship even closer. So imagine my surprise when, in 2003, I get “the call” to personally DJ and Emcee the wedding reception for one of Dick Clark’s immediate family members.
This was the event that changed everything! In short, this was the moment the Remarkable Weddings package really began. One of my favorite moments from this incredible day was the first dance. The groom (Rob) is actually the brother of Dick’s wife Kari. As I introduced the first dance, I soon thereafter proceeded to invite “all invited guests” to the dance floor. It was at this time the most amazing thing happened that I never expected. Dick Clark and his wife Kari walked out to the dance floor.
Rob later told me that he was surprised as well, because Dick does not often dance. By the way, the song was “Always” by Bon Jovi. So there I am doing my thing and the greatest disc jockey of all time is dancing less than five feet from me. What a moment!
It was an incredible day that served as the catalyst for me to create moments for other wedding couples that would leave their guests feeling the same sort of excitement. Ever since this day in 2003, I have committed my life to crafting special moments that would make a difference in someone’s life. For me it has never been just about music . . . it’s about memories!
People often ask me where the name Remarkable Weddings came from. Well, it indirectly came from Dick Clark! In a letter sent to me, he complimented me on the “remarkable” level of service he has come to know. That affirmation has always made me very proud. The name now serves as a constant reminder of this moment. It keeps me always cognizant of my ability to affect other peoples lives in a positive way!
And now you know . . . the rest of the story!
